Wow! What a horrible year we’re leaving. And while there are many reasons for New Year optimism, we’ve got lots of work to do as individuals and as engaged members of community if we’re to rise to our New Year’s occasion. We’ll need to be well informed and our healthiest best to serve ourselves, those dear to us and our communities. Leadership Austin is celebrating its 40th anniversary and it has much to celebrate. The program, initially sponsored by the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, has identified, trained and placed hundreds of well-trained and motivated “community trustees” throughout the community. The expanding alumni base can be found in prominent leadership positions in Austin government, non-profits, business and education. As an alum myself, I can attest to the importance of the program in nurturing a leadership base that can leverage many constructive resources.
