The virus challenge is reminding us of the importance of responsive government…or the lack thereof. The timing of this challenge, while unfortunate anytime, should be a great catalyst to encourage our most thoughtful attention to the upcoming elections. We shouldn’t be electing rhetoric, partisan ideology or charismatic soundbites. We need to elect experienced candidates with the demonstrated ability to think, act, communicate and LEAD. Let’s honor our responsibility as We The People and choose wisely.

Leadership Austin is celebrating its 40th anniversary and it has much to celebrate. The program, initially sponsored by the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, has identified, trained and placed hundreds of well-trained and motivated “community trustees” throughout the community. The expanding alumni base can be found in prominent leadership positions in Austin government, non-profits, business and education. As an alum myself, I can attest to the importance of the program in nurturing a leadership base that can leverage many constructive resources. While we can strive to remain immature, as I try to model, we can’t stop the aging process. Our aches and pains attest to that reality. Another reality is that aging ain’t what it used to be, and there are many pills, potions, exercise regimens and innovative programs specifically designed to address those of us who are slightly beyond our midlife crisis stage. I recently had the opportunity to participate in a conference that dramatically opened my eyes, heart and mind to a new age of aging possibilities.
