WE KNOW BETTER. WE WANT BETTER. LET’S NOT JUST DREAM. LET’S ACT BETTER!
We’re living in a time of too much harsh. Too much incivility, impatience, impulsive anger, road rage, lack of consideration…thoughtlessness. We’ve too often contributed to this reality through fault or default. Most of our mamas taught us better, though fewer are these days. We’ve become worn down, impatient…too quick to anger, too slow to reflect, respond and apologize.
Sister Mary Rose…A Community/Spiritual Role Model…
I loved the opportunity to know Sister Mary Rose. She’d been in senior leadership of The Daughters of Charity, had been the chief operating officer of Austin’s Seton Healthcare System, and was brought back to lead the development of The Seton Cove, a non-denominational spirituality center. As a volunteer, I had the opportunity to learn from and work with her in various capacities.
I especially came to appreciate her attributes of civility, kindness and patience in working with others. She managed a multi-faceted organization through a wonderful balance of consumate people skills and corporate organizational savvy. I frequently bowed my head in prayer with her, but she also joined me in leading others in a “Coconut Song” conga line throughout the Seton Cove offices. When I need a boost of leadership energy, I often think of Sister Mary Rose.
LET’S THOUGHTFULLY CONSIDER OUR PERSONAl, FAMILY, BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY INTERESTS, AND CHART A HELPFUL COURSE FOR CONSTRUCTIVE CIVIC ENGAGEMENT…
We’ve got unlimited opportunities to share our talents and resources for the benefit of our communities. Our children, hospitals, schools, parks, charities, civic organizations, faith-based groups, etc., can always use our help. Our politicos have frequently neglected our community needs, so the sky’s the limit on our ability to contribute…Time, Financial Support and Creative Problem-Solving.
