I wasn't good at math, but I understand E Squared--Education and Economic Opportunity. Their powerful interdependence and our neglect of both. So that much collateral damage is suffered domestically and around the world. Mass immigration, cultural, societal and governmental dysfunction can all be attributed to inadequate education and economic opportunity. Our neglect can be converted to stewardship if we rally our friend in the mirror, expect better of government, and rise to our collective occasions. I'm disappointed, but optimistic. And motivated. The worldwide marches of last month showcased some tremendous untapped civic energy that begs to be constructively channelled. This potential requires that concerned citizens of all ideologies and backgrounds join together collaboratively in constructive community building efforts. A diversity of leaders and activist groups are posturing to play influential roles. We need to carefully choose priority issues that speak to our Better Angels. And then pledge to ourselves that we're going to make a difference. Our communities need us, and we need each other. LET'S MOSEY!

Wow! What an amazing few weeks. The culmination of an angry, high-volume campaign brought no rest to the politically weary. A depressing inaugural speech was the perfect preface to a worldwide backlash against real and perceived threats to our democracy. Women-led marches emphasized a "Women's Rights are Human Rights" theme. I would suggest that these events represent an awakening of the Sleeping Giant of citizenship and civic engagement. The first two weeks of this Presidency demonstrate that Trump and Co. are predictably not yet ready for political prime time. There is no 100 Day honeymoon. Unprecedented numbers of citizens are rising to the occasion. That's encouraging. This commentary may prove helpful. Let's Mosey!

This Country is in a state of heightened anxiety as we anticipate the transfer of governance in Washington. We endured a traumatic campaign season, and most of our fellow citizens, regardless of political ideology, are anxious as we experience the potential for unprecedented change. I suggest that we focus our concerns and energies locally, where we can and should make a measurable difference. The more we strengthen our local communities the better those models can translate to State and Federal application. LET'S MOSEY!

Wow! What a year. We were blind-sided, front-sided and back-sided like never before. Or at least it seemed that way. Especially in the political arena. We had information overload, but too much bad information. We were confused and the pundits were confused. We can't "put our priority ducks in a row" until we reflect on where we are and how we got here. Hopefully, this year-end Mosey perspective will give you some food for thought as we wind this one down and launch a better one. We can do that. Together. Let's Mosey!

Wow! What a year. The campaign season brought out the worst in us. I didn't do well in math, but I understand "lowest common denominator." Anger, fear, fake news, dirty tricks, innuendo, exploitation, manipulation and other descriptives I can't use in polite society. But we now better understand the issues that led to the dramatic election results, and the communal faceslap has teed us up to rise to a better community occasion...or not. Let's choose the former. It's time to don our white hats and ride to the rescue in the New Year. But first, let's enjoy the holidays, be kind to ourselves, family and friends and hone our civility skills for the future. Get a head start with this latest Mosey commentary. Happy Holidays! LET'S MOSEY!
Read moreOn "Truthiness," Fake News, and Those Pesky Facts. We Can/Must Do Better.
"Truthiness" used to be a humorous concept coined by Mr. Colbert. But it's no longer that funny when so many are playing fast and loose with facts and the truth. We must have trust in each other and our institutions if we're to have an orderly functioning society. And we must be well-informed if we're to play our many roles. We're challenged with fake news, social media exploitation and a diminishing respect for well-researched facts that create knowledge and ultimately power. Join me to address the challenge of building a better-informed citizenry. It starts with you and me. LET'S MOSEY!
