OOOPS!... "WE THE PEOPLE" ARE CATCHING OURSELVES...THERE'S NOWHERE ELSE TO HIDE...

Time To Get A Grip, Summon Some Courage, And Do The Right Thing

Sculpture by Bijan Pirnia…from The Aspen Mall

We’ve been hiding behind labels, political parties, our funneled media sources, and literally behind our doors during Covid lockdowns. However, we had to come out/up for air eventually, and now is that time for most of us. This tremendously dysfunctional time has provided a cover for most of our worst instincts, but our Friend In The Mirror is now being invited out by our Better Angels. It’s time to rise to our occasion.

Joe Biden is a caring, experienced and honorable President and public servant. He has recruited competent, experienced Cabinet members, and they are drawing on the best and brightest to get our various key agencies back on track. Our tremendous setback of the past several years is now being responsibly addressed.

BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES NEED A MAKEOVER, MORE THAN JUST COSMETIC

REPUBLICANS…Have forgotten how to govern in the best interest of their communities. But, they haven’t needed to. They’ve been focused on power and the fundraising necessary to grow it and keep it. They’ve mastered the art/science of blame, deflection, concentration on hot-button cultural issues, and the art of messaging. They took labels and issues such as “progressive,” “socialist,” “radical left,” “defund the police,” “critical race theory,” “transgender athletes,” etc., and hung them on the Dems, who seemed helpless to respond.

The Republican Party was hijacked by Trump and the radical right, has alienated many of their constituents, and will have to moderate the extremes if they are to remain relevant. The hopeful impending demise of the Trump organization should open the doors to a reformation of the GOP.

DEMOCRATS…Biden is a good man, but won mainly because his opponent was the worst President in modern history. And, what should have been a landslide victory was a squeaker, because the Dems did such a traditionally typical job of not rising to their occasion. The margin of victory can be attributed to one person. Unfortunately, not Joe Biden, but Stacey Abrams. We desperately needed her savvy in Texas, where our well-meaning, but ill-experienced Dem volunteers and staff registered new voters… WHO THEN VOTED FOR TRUMP. Our Dems took too many knives to gunfights, and just got beaten. Several outstanding Dem candidates lost because the national and state Parties let them down. I personally gave more money to the Texas Democratic candidates and Party than ever before. It was a poor investment. I’m an Independent, and am hopeful for better. But the Democrats are going to have to prove that they’re worthy of support from many of us. They stand for better, but have been unable to get out of their traditional rut. Meanwhile, the R’s run over them…because they can.

OUR RESPONSIBILITY

Be Informed…Be Supportive of your Elected Officials**…Be Charitable…Be a Role Model Volunteer in your Family, Neighborhood, Workplace and Community.…Be Kind

** We DO NOT owe financial support to our politicos just because we’ve given in the past. Our governance ( R’s & D’s) has failed us at National and State levels. They’re wasting our/their time on trivial hot-button cultural issues, rather than solving critical problems that really make a difference to most of us. They’re busy, but NOT EFFECTIVE. We must challenge them to develop new models that will enable them to make a positive difference where it matters. They (Dems, especially) must stop using the same failed strategies, expecting different results. See “SERIOUS ISSUES” above. Ask your candidates or incumbents what they’re doing differently to effect change. Once they’re ready to be effective leaders, ask how you can help.
